FOODS TO AVOID DURING HOT SUMMER

AVOID SOME FOOD HABITS AND THE HEAT! LEARN HOW TO AVOID FOOD SPOILAGE AND DEHYDRATION.

The scorching heat and increase in temperature can put the body under various complications and nutrient deficiencies like dehydration, dyselectrolytemia, sun stroke, skin rashes, vertigo, irritability, lack of concentration, sleep problems severe weakness etc. During summer, body needs foods that are water and electrolyte-rich, and calorie dense to replenish and hydrate the cells. But, some foods and habits must be excluded during summer time as it tends to devastate one’s well being.


TYPES OF FOODS TO AVOID:

The proper diet can provide the body with essential vitamins, minerals, enzymes, antioxidants and phytochemicals. Having seasonal foods helps enhance the natural cleansing and healing abilities of the body’s system. There are some foods which are best avoided. They are the spicy, acidic, oily and high-calorie ones. During summer, foods also tend to get spoilt easily, leading to food poisoning and other illnesses.

  • Ice Cream-Ice creams are high in fat and sugar content, increasing your risk of developing obesity and diabetes. So, it is better to limit.
  • Alcohol-Alcohol has the ability to immediately increase your body temperature. It can also worsen immune system.
  • Mangoes-Mangoes give rise to a number of undesirable symptoms and ailments like diarrhea, stomach upset, headaches, etc., especially during summers. So, if a person takes one whole mango in a day, he or she must cut down a portion of carbohydrate from rice or roti. It is not allowed for long term basis.
  • Dairy Products-Some milk products which contains higher amount of saturated fat can undergo abnormal fermentation in the stomach due to body heat and cause indigestion. So, double toned milk is the better option.
  • Oily FoodsOily foods can be worse when had during summers, as they too can spike up body heat and lower immunity.
  • SpicesAdding excessive spices to dishes during the summer can also boost body heat further; can lead to dehydration.
  • Grilled MeatAs grilled meat is cooked at high temperatures and when the temperature is already high outside, the combination can increase the carcinogen quality of grilled meat and up your risk of developing cancer.

HOW TO AVOID THE DEHYDRATION:

Fluid balance is the most important trick to keep the body free from heat. Drinking water can prevent dehydration as it may result in mood changes, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

It is recommended to avoid excessive caffeine, tea, coffee and alcohol as these tend to promote dehydration.

      It is a notion that intake of sugary juices can help with hydration but it is absolutely wrong. Sugary juices contain free sugar which elevates blood glucose level randomly. Same thing goes for salty food as it can alter blood pressure when coupled with the excessive heat outside.

       So drinking five-to-six glasses of water per day is recommended if the person doesn’t have any fluid restriction.

HOW TO AVOID THE FOOD SPOILAGE:

Vegetables, milk or any food product that contains high moisture tends to spoil in summer at a very faster rate as compared to winter. As a result, the foods spoil faster in summer. Hence, proper food-handling and storage are crucial.

Here, are some suggestions to avoid food spoilage-

  • Cook at home and carry own lunch or dinner to work but goods such as rice, grains and pulses should be stored in airtight containers so that moisture does not get in. If you are taking outside foods it contains more Trans fat, spice and free sugars.
  • Eat only small portions of healthy foods, as digestion can get sluggish in summer.
  • For foods that are hot, keep them at that temperature or heat them again till they boil and then leave them to cool. Reheat in a few hours to keep them from spoiling.
  • During travelling, cool the food and store it in insulated containers and try to reach your destination soon.
  • While cooking with frozen foods, firstly it is needed to thaw them properly or it may get spoiled due to bacteria.

So, everyone needs to take care during summer by following a proper diet. To sum up the summer, it is required to avoid some unhealthy things to become healthier.
