PANICKED? COVID19 situation is not all dark and gloom.

In layman’s term, it is called “panic attack” which is several episodes of stress and anxiety. Although the subjective relationship between stress and immune systems ain’t clear and researchers are developing studies.

Brief naturalistic stressors (such as exams) tended to suppress cellular immunity while preserving humoral immunity. Chronic stressors were associated with suppression of both cellular and humoral measures. Since the dawn of time, organisms have been subject to evolutionary pressure from the environment. The ability to respond to environmental threats or stressors such as predation or natural disaster enhanced survival and therefore reproductive capacity, and physiological responses that supported such responses could be selected for. In mammals, these responses include changes that increase the delivery of oxygen and glucose to the heart and the large skeletal muscles. The result is physiological support for adaptive behaviors such as “fight or flight.” Immune responses to stressful situations may be part of these adaptive responses because, in addition to the risk inherent in the situation (e.g., a predator), fighting and fleeing carries the risk of injury and subsequent entry of infectious agents into the bloodstream or skin. Any wound in the skin is likely to contain pathogens that could multiply and cause infection. Stress-induced changes in the immune system that could accelerate wound repair and help prevent infections from taking hold would therefore be adaptive and selected along with other physiological changes that increased evolutionary fitness.

In this pandemic situation,  and being locked down, many are suffering from this panic attack unnecessarily but you know you can do nothing except protecting yourself. Your stress level influences your health.

Here are some solutions based on Psycho diet and psychosocial perspectives.

  • Continue your prescribed medicines because researchers say that due to several mutation,  this virus is stronger now and it affects the regular pathways of the body. So you have to be protective as much as possible.
  • Healthy diet only makes you wealthy. Fresh, antioxidant-rich, calorie-dense,  high biological value protein consisted diet can play the ball. But don’t crave for unhealthy items due to stress, because its common during stressful periods.
  • Do freehand exercise, meditation, yoga, skipping,  jogging. Utilize your rooftop, balcony where you rarely got time to go.
  • Music therapy can do some miracle,  dance with your favorite music or murmur your favorite tune.
  • Rejuvenate yourself with your old hobbies like cooking, reciting, gardening.
  • Reading books, e-journals, doing online short courses, designing some upcoming projects,  finalizing the shopping list all can be done for self-motivation.
  • Try to watch some motivational videos instead of panicking. There are some psychological inventories available online (free of cost). Your anxiety level can be assessed through it.

Some tasks of Self-monitoring:

  1. You can try drawing two circles – a circle of control and a circle of no influence – and fill them with things in your life that you worry about. This helps you to remember what things you can impact and those that, no matter how much you worry, you can do nothing about.
  2. You can glance over your old diaries and write down your present feelings on the new one. Maintaining a diary and judging your life in your thought is truly commendable.
