Walking, A Great Exercise For Beginners

Owing to today’s hectic lifestyle and work schedule, many individuals are falling prey to having excess amount of body weight. According to several research studies, walking for about at least thirty minutes daily helps to improve your cardiovascular fitness levels. It also helps to improve the endurance and fitness level in an individual

The best thing about this exercise is that it is free of cost and no need to buy any heavy equipment. If you are feeling bored to walk alone, you can take your friend along with you for a walk. It is the best time to socialize with your friend too. According to many research studies in diabetic individuals, walking has seen to improve the blood sugar levels and in hypertensive individuals, it has seen to lower the blood pressure. Walking also releases “endorphins” which are feel-good hormones which help to decrease the stress hormones in an individual by lowering the stress hormones like cortisol in the blood.

If the weather is bad, you can even walk in a mall or walk by stairs instead of using the lift. These small changes can make a massive difference in improving the fitness level of an individual.

Following are few tips especially for beginners who have just begun with their walking routine.

  • DO NOT FORGET TO WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES

Yes indeed, it is very important to wear comfortable shoes while going for a walk. You cannot simply wear high heels out there and go for a walk. You might twist your ankle or have a leg injury or a shoe-bite if you do not wear comfortable shoes while walking. Wear socks if you are prone to getting a shoe bite.

  • WEAR COMFORTABLE LOOSE CLOTHING

Wear comfortable loose cotton clothes while you go for a walk. Wearing something tight might make you feel suffocated while walking. You might even develop skin rashes and experience itching. Apply sunscreen on your face before you go for a walk. It will protect you from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

  • START AT A GRADUAL PACE

If you are a beginner and are not used to exercising, begin walking at a gradual pace for about thirty minutes then slowly increase the speed and duration once your body is used to becoming active gradually.  Do not over-exercise on the first day itself. If you do so, the next day you might have severe body pain and you might get demotivated to go for a walk the next day. If you are on a weight loss journey do not rush yourself like walking ten hours a day. Remember that Good things take time. It just needs dedication and motivation. Even Rome was not built in a day!

  • CARRY A WATER BOTTLE ALONG WITH YOU AND A TOWEL

Staying hydrated throughout your walking routine is extremely essential. Just small sips of water will help you stay hydrated throughout your routine. Carrying a towel or a napkin is extremely essential to wipe out the sweat from your body especially from your face and hands.

  • WEAR A PEDOMETER

Especially for individuals trying to lose weight, wearing a pedometer will allow you to track the number of steps that you are performing daily. You might get motivated to walk more than the previous day since you know the total count of the previous day. Walking at least 10,000 steps daily is essential for an individual to stay healthy and fit.

Through this article, I do believe that you all are assured that walking is indeed a great exercise, to begin with for beginners. Have a healthy and an energetic day ahead.
