Harmful Habits During Weight Loss

Who does not want to look and feel sexy these days? Being fit is the trend these days. Every girl wants to have a size zero and every boy wants to have six pack abs and look like Salman Khan. Most importantly, people should realize that weight loss is a gradual process just as Rome was not built in a day. Similarly, you cannot expect to have six pack abs in a day or a 10 kg weight loss in a week. You might feel overly motivated to lose weight and exercise almost the entire day, but you are just straining your muscles and not doing things the right way.

Following are certain mistakes people are bound to make while they have just begun with their weight loss journey:

  • NOT FOLLOWING A HEALTHY DIET

Do you ever wonder as why you are not losing weight despite running many kilometres in the morning and evening or by exercising tremendously? Well, let me tell you that even if you run miles but consuming an unhealthy diet, all your hard work will be wasted and you would not lose weight. Tell your mind that you can definitely achieve your target. Temptations are normal and you might get extra cravings for a piece of cake or a pizza especially after your workout. I know it is very difficult to control, But training your mind is the first step to achieve results when you are on a weight loss journey.

  • NOT DRINKING ADEQUATE WATER

People often forget to carry their bottle of water to work and often drink less water during work due to excessive workload. None of the soft drinks that we consume cab quench our thirst except of water which also clears harmful toxins from our body and aids weight loss. You can even make your water colourful and healthy by preparing a detox water that you can consume throughout the day. A very simple recipe for detox water is adding slices of cucumber, mint and lemon to your bottle of water and consuming it throughout the day.

  • STARVING

It is common for all of us to get emotionally disturbed when we have a wedding coming up or any special occasion in our families and we are overweight. All we think is how we would look in our shararas or our wedding suit. That is when we actually start starving so that we can lose weight and look good during the wedding. But did you know that starving would actually make oneself weaker? There is a phenomenon called the “yo-yo” effect which means that the weight that we lose by starving or by following a crash diet can actually be rebounded and in fact you might even gain weight after a certain amount of time. Not only that but also starving makes one’s metabolism quite low which makes weight loss even more difficult. So, say no to starving and yes to following a healthy weight loss balanced diet.

  • CONSUMING FRUIT JUICES OVER A WHOLE FRUIT

Many of us think that fruit juices are quite healthy and aid weight loss. It is definitely a myth since it contains a lot of preservatives which are not good for health. When we consume whole fruit we also consume fibre that the fruit contains which is otherwise not present in the fruit juices. Have a variety of fruits especially seasonal fruits. They contain a lot of vitamins, minerals and bio-active compounds which have antioxidant like properties and thus help to prevent various diseases like cancer.

  • NOT SLEEPING ADEQUATELY

With today’s busy and hectic lifestyle, we are often stressed and do not have time to sleep. Many of us suffer from insomnia. It is quite common these days. But did you know that not sleeping enough could actually raise stress hormones like cortisol and thus raise the blood sugar levels in an individual further leading to weight gain. Thus, it is very important to sleep at least for seven to eight hours daily. If you find it difficult to get proper sleep at night, practice ten minutes of meditation before bed time. It definitely calms your mind and will increase the serotonin level in your body thus helping you to sleep well. Another dietary remedy to get proper sleep is to have turmeric milk at night. It contains Curcumin compounds which increase the serotonin level in the person’s body thus giving the person a sound sleep.

I hope you really loved reading this article and would definitely stay away from these harmful habits during weight loss.
